The Earl Of Sandwich

Bread and meat, O get me lad
Bread and cheese, pray me spread
In olden days – before sandwich dawned.

But John Montagu
To the Earl his due
Of Sandwich did view –

In the 18th century
Playing cribbage as ‘is hobby
Would order his valet to carry –

Two pieces of bread
And meat between shred
For a morsel grand.

And eat he could
with his bare hand
No fork, nor grease on the card land.

The clan aristocrat
They follow prat
“The same as Sandwich” and that’s that.

(The origin of sandwich with reference to wikipedia)
